Silk Aquatint Monoprints Series The Painterly Printmaker ELLEN PLISKIN creates silk aquatint monoprints by attaching silk to a plexiglass plate, drawing on that plate with waterbased crayons and printing ink. The image is then transferred by laying a piece of paper on the painted surface and then by applying pressure, running the plate through a hand-cranked press. "Each time I create the image, it's a handmade original. A monotype is a printmaker's painting," she explains. "All the prints to some extent are extensions of the work I do in painting." |
